MAYORAL APPOINTMENT TO THE 2015 PLANNING COMMISSION
Background
One vacancy exists in Ward 1 of the Planning Commission due to the expiration of Sue Lahti's term.
The City received an application from an interested resident in the community, Daphne Ponds. Members of the Council interviewed the applicant on April 20, 2015.
At least two members must reside in each Council ward for the term of their appointment to the Planning Commission. Appointments need to be made as follows:
- one commissioner in Ward 1 for a two-year term
The method of appointment was adopted by the Blaine City Council in 1996 and became effective in 1997. Ordinance No. 96-1628 provides that the Mayor will announce the appointment of any appointees to serve two-year terms on the Planning Commission. The Council will confirm the appointment at the May 21, 2015 Council meeting. The Planning Commission appointee will be sworn into office at the June 9, 2015 Planning Commission meeting.
Recommendation
Mayor announces the appointment of Daphne Ponds from Council Ward 1, to serve two-year terms on the Planning Commission.
