AUTHORIZE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH PRAIRIE RESTORATIONS, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $28,500 FOR OPEN SPACE MANAGEMENT
Background
In March 2014, Council approved the NRCB CIP for 2014. That plan included continuation of management practices at several of the City's open spaces. This work was initiated by Prairie Restorations, Inc. in 2009, utilizing 3 year plans for management and improvements of the open spaces. The current 3 year plan of follow up work was approved in 2013. This agenda item details the continuation of management practices for 2014 and 2015. Work is performed in the fall of the year.
After 2015, only Laddie Lake and Hidden Ponds will need follow up management for another year or two due to restoration projects in those two areas. The other sites will have reached a point of periodic maintenance, needing every other year attention to control invasive species such as buckthorn. It is recommended that Prairie Restorations continue the management work so the methods and planning remain consistent.
It is recommended that Council approve the open space management expenditures for 2014 and 2015 and authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Prairie Restorations, Inc. to perform the work.
