ADMINISTRATION- Chris Olson, Police Chief
Title
AUTHORIZE REPAIRS TO POLICE SQUAD 5236
Background
On April 15, 2015 Officers of the Blaine Police Department responded to a residential burglary in the 1800 block of 130th Lane in the City of Blaine. Based upon information from a witness, officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and pursued the fleeing suspect. Necessary actions by Blaine Police Officers and Anoka County Deputies helped to stop the suspect and take the suspect into custody. Because of the suspect's extreme measures to avoid apprehension, it resulted in damage to two Blaine squads and three squad cars from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Damage to one of the Blaine squads (marked SUV Number 5236) exceeds $10,000.00 in repairs.
The requested action is pursuant to the Blaine City Charter section 6.05, which requires City Council approval of all purchases or contracts in excess of $10,000.
Repairs will be funded through the City of Blaine's self-insurance fund. Additionally, the City is seeking compensation through the suspect's insurance, if such exists, or through court-ordered restitution.
Recommendation
By Motion, approve the expenditure of $12,936.00 to ABRA auto body repair for the repair of marked Police Chevrolet Tahoe Unit Number 5236.
