PROCLAIMING EXTRA MILE DAY 2014

WHEREAS, Blaine, Minnesota is a community which acknowledges that a special vibrancy exists within the entire community when its individual citizens collectively "go the extra mile" in personal effort, volunteerism, and service; and
WHEREAS, Blaine is a community which encourages its citizens to maximize their personal contribution to the community by giving of themselves wholeheartedly and with total effort, commitment, and conviction to their individual ambitions, family, friends, and community; and
WHEREAS, Blaine is a community which chooses to shine a light on and celebrate individuals and organizations within its community who "go the extra mile" in order to make a difference and lift up fellow members of their community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Blaine acknowledges the mission of Extra Mile America to create 400 Extra Mile cities in America and was proud to support "Extra Mile Day" on November 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Blaine has always been fortunate to have many wonderful volunteers; and
WHEREAS, two individuals are being recognized tonight for their volunteerism in the City of Blaine; and
WHEREAS, two individuals are being recognized tonight for their outstanding volunteerism in the City of Blaine; and
WHEREAS, Gail Marinac has volunteered at many events including the Blaine Triathlon, World Fest, Family Fun Night, Princess Party, Winter Holiday Party, Spring Egg Hunt, Bike Helmet Sales, Safety Camp, Citizens Academy, Food Shelf and Red Cross Blood Drives at City Hall and throughout Anoka County, the Lyric Arts Main Street Stage, and now is becoming a volunteer for the Anoka County Sheriff's Department; and
WHEREAS, Patty Sandin has served at numerous events including the Spring Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Hunt, Princess Party, World Fest, Blaine Triathlon, Citizens Academy, 50th Anniversary Committee, Spring Lake Park/Blaine/Mounds View Fire Corps; Food Shelf and serving at the Senior Center with multiple activities, including driving the senior bus; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Blaine does hereby proclaim November 1, 2014 to be Extra Mile Day and urges each individual in the community to take time on this day to not only "go the extra mile" in his or her own life, but to also acknowledge all those who are inspirational in their efforts and commitment to make their organizations, families, community, country, or world a better place.
