Executive Summary

Council is asked to approve a contract with Mickman Brothers Inc. for the professional services related to performing landscape maintenance care of the medians from 4/1/2022 through 10/31/2024 in the amount of $20,453.28 per year.

Background

Over the past several years the city has added landscaping to several of it street projects, 105th Avenue, Radisson Road, 109th Avenue, etc.  The original contracts obligated the contractor that installed the landscaping and to maintain it for a certain period of time to ensure proper care and establishment.  Most of those establishment periods have ended and now need to be maintained by the city.  As public works does not currently have inhouse staff to perform all of the maintenance for the landscape median maintenance quotes have been obtained.

Staff asked four contractors that specialize in this type of service and asked for proposals for the median landscaping maintenance.  Only two firms returned proposals and staff has reviewed them and are recommending a contract be awarded to Mickman Brothers Inc.  This services contract will be for three years at an annual cost of $20,453.28 and will be funded by the public works street maintenance portion of the general fund and has been accounted for in the 2022 budget.  The other quote was submitted by A+ Outdoor Services and was in the amount of $47,500 for 2022 only.
