Strategic Plan One Year Check In
end
Background
The City of Blaine Strategic Plan was developed in 2019. Due to staffing changes, council changes, and the pandemic the formal adoption of the strategic plan was delayed until October 2020. After the adoption of the strategic plan by the City Council, the City Manager directed a small team of staff to develop an implementation plan and to develop a process for continually tracking and reporting of the strategic plan progress.
Along with the implementation work the City Council revisited the City’s vision statement at the 2021 spring council retreat. During this retreat the City Council came to an agreement on the City’s vision statement. The vision statement was the final piece that completed the strategic plan.
Since that time staff have completed the first two quarterly reporting periods for the strategic plan. Recently the implementation team has worked to include existing data sets into the strategic plan reporting and identify data sets that need to be collected in the future.
During the retreat presentation Craig Rapp, the City’s strategic plan consultant, will give an overview of the history behind how the current strategic plan was created and the process that staff and the City Council went through in 2019.
Staff will then share with City Council the current status of the six strategic priorities and give a sneak peek at the public dashboard that is under construction to report strategic plan progress to the community.
Craig Rapp will then discuss with the City Council the next steps in the strategic plan process. The discussion will include how and when it is appropriate to tweak the current plan and how individuals who were not a part of the original plan creation can play an important role in the plan’s success.
