Finalizing City Vision Statement

Background
From March through May 2019, the Blaine City Council and senior leadership team engaged in a strategic planning process. The process resulted in a strategic plan with six strategic priorities. This strategic plan is expected to run through 2023. As a part of the strategic plan a new mission statement and a set of values were adopted by the City Council.
A vision statement was intended to be a third component of the strategic plan alongside the mission statement and core values. The Council determined that staff would work on a vision statement as the strategic plan was implemented.
During this retreat item staff will work together with the City Council to finalize a vision statement. Staff will provide a presentation that highlights the steps already taken such as the SWOT analysis from the strategic plan and the development visioning work done earlier this year.
Staff and Council will use a four step process to finalize the vision statement. Attached to this agenda item you will find a document with the four steps listed. You are encouraged to think through the steps before the retreat and come with additional ideas to add to idea boards during the retreat.
Staff Recommendation
During the retreat staff and Council will work together to finalize a vision statement.
