Civil Unrest Update

Executive Summary

Staff will provide an update for staffing, operational, and security plans for potential civil unrest anticipated in the next couple of months.

Background

In the Summer of 2020, the Blaine Police Department was requested to assist with civil unrest, including large protesting, vandalism, and violence in Minneapolis and St. Paul, as a result of the George Floyd incident.  We also experienced localized related problems, including in the Northtown Mall area. 

Staff will provide a closed session update to the council with security related data plans for upcoming potential unrest as a result of the trial commencing on March 8^th in Minneapolis.
