Title

CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO THE ACCESS CONTROL UPGRADE PROJECT FOR ELECTRICAL WORK AT UTILITY SITES

Background

Additional work has been identified as necessary to prepare the various Utility sites for the security system upgrades awarded to Pro-Tec Security at the April 6, 2020 City Council meeting.  As the contractor began the work, it was quickly realized that the existing wiring and communication infrastructure could not be re-used for the new improvements.

We have asked them to provide a cost to install the necessary wiring, conduit, and network connections for the security systems.  Utilizing an existing contractor will save the City significant costs for mobilization while also maintaining the security of these critical infrastructure sites.

Financial Impact

Funding will be from the respective Water Enterprise and Sewer Enterprise Funds.

Water Fund Expense:                                                               $  33,450.00

Sewer Fund Expense:                                                               $  16,688.00

                                                                                                                              $  50,138.00

City Council is also asked to approve a 10% contingency to bring the total change order to $55,151.80.

Sufficient budget was appropriated and is available in the Water and Sewer Funds for this work under the overall improvement projects for each component.

Recommendation

By motion, approve a Change Order in the amount of $55,151.80, authorizing the additional funds, and authorize the Director of Public Works to sign said Change Order.
