PUBLIC HEARING - Dan Schluender, City Engineer
Title
ADA TRANSITION PLAN
Background
The Traffic Commission will hold a Public Hearing to collect input as part of the preparation of an ADA Transition Plan.
Input regarding accessibility concerns on the City’s sidewalk and trail network is being requested to prepare a transition plan outlining timelines and strategies to address non-compliant pedestrian facilities within the city-owned right-of-way. During the open house attendees will be able to provide comments, review informational materials related to the draft ADA Transition Plan, and discuss with City staff. The draft ADA Transition Plan will also be available for review on the City’s website at blainemn.gov from December 10, 2019 to January 10, 2020.
The City’s sidewalk and trail network includes curb ramps, traffic signals, and other amenities that assist individuals traveling by foot, wheelchair, or other non-motorized methods. The American Disability Act sets design standards for public right of way to meet the needs of people of all abilities. Public input is an important part of the process for the City to plan strategies and timelines for addressing current ADA standards.
Recommendation
Hold a Public Hearing to receive input on the ADA Transition Plan.
