Title
REVIEW OF MARMON STREET AND 107TH AVENUE BETWEEN BALL ROAD AND SUNSET AVENUE
Background
The City has received complaints of speeding and truck traffic on Marmon Street and 107th Avenue between Ball Road and Sunset Avenue. The complaints have stated that the commercial and industrial uses to the west of this residential area are the cause of the traffic problems.
Traffic counts, vehicle speeds, and accident information were reviewed and are summarized as follows:
• Marmon Street - Average daily traffic counts in 2016 were 1886. The 85th percentile speed was 29 mph (85% of vehicles are at or below this speed).
• 107th Avenue east of National Street - Traffic counts have increased from 738 average daily traffic in 2014 to 1286 in 2016. The Police Department did monitor speeds in 2017 and the 85th percentile speed was 30 mph.
• Ball Road east of Lever Street - Traffic counts have increased from 1250 average daily traffic in 2014 to 1912 in 2016.
• Peak traffic on these streets was from 3 to 7 PM.
• The Municipal State Aid collector routes in the neighborhood are Ball Road and Lever Street. The average daily traffic on Ball Road (east of Lexington Avenue) in 2015 was 7400 and on Lever Street (north of North Road) was 1200. The average daily traffic on Ball Road in 2017 is 8431 and on Lever Street is 1482.
• In the last 2.5 years, there were two accidents on Marmon Street and one on 107th Avenue. See the attached map for accidents in the Ball Road area.
The City does not have truck counts on our street system. Trucks need to utilize the local street system to access residents homes to make deliveries, perform remodel work or storm damage repairs, perform landscape work, or when needed for moving truck services. This area has the commercial and industrial properties to the west, which could generate truck traffic in the area, but the majority of trucks utilize Lexington Avenue and I35W. The City has previously contacted the industrial properties with the request that their trucks utilize Ball Road to Lexington Avenue.
