Title
REVIEW EXISTING PARKING RESTRICTIONS - QUINCY STREET AND MONROE STREET FROM 88TH AVENUE TO 89TH AVENUE
Background
Public Works maintains traffic signs for the City and questioned the parking restriction signs that are old and faded on Quincy Street and Monroe Street from 88th Avenue to 89th Avenue. The signs were authorized by City Council in 1984 due to concerns of church members parking south of 89th Avenue on Sundays. The parking restrictions are Sunday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Since 1984, both churches on the north side of 89th Avenue have added parking and 89th Avenue was also reconstructed with a center median. With these changes, the need for the parking restrictions seems to no longer be an issue.
Regulatory signs like parking restrictions can only be ordered for installation or removal by City Council. The Traffic Commission can invite the neighborhood to the next Traffic Commission meeting to take public comments on the proposed removal of the parking restriction signs, or they can choose to have the signs remain and be replaced by the Sign Shop, or go directly back to City Council with a recommendation to remove the signs.
Recommendation
By motion, direct staff to mail notices to the neighborhood to invite them to the next Traffic Commission meeting on July 5, 2017 and after taking public comment either direct that the PW Sign Shop replace the existing signs or make a recommendation to the City Council on the removal of the signs.
Or
By motion, make a recommendation to the City Council to remove the parking restrictions.
